 Charity of the Month Candye Kane www.candyekane.com Local blues singer Candye Kane was diagnosed with a form of pancreatic cancer and endured a 9-hour long surgery called a pancreatic duodectomy at UC San Diego Thornton Hospital on April 18. Hundreds of stitches later, Candye is resting at home now but really needs help with covering her medical bills and living expenses while she is unable to work. Like many self-employed musicians and artists Candye did not have medical insurance. Candye had been suffering abdominal pains for four to six months before she went to the emergency room at Scripps Hospital in Encinitas on Feb. 22 and a CAT scan revealed a tumor in her pancreas. After her diagnosis, she canceled a tour in Europe and her slot in the Blues Caravan Tour to focus on her health.
