Be Kind Rewind - Jack Black and Mos Def star is this cute, but very slight story about video store clerks who have to shoot their own version of feature films after their own collection accidentally gets erased. This film has some bright funny moments but is mostly a chore to get through. Director Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind & Science of Sleep ) has his heart in the right place but the quality of his work is in definite decline.

In Bruges - Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Ralph Fiennes star in a sly and clever crime drama that hits its mark occasionally. Director Martin McDonagh pieces together a slightly unbelievable plot with only half-believable characters. It suffers from too much quirkiness and attempting to be hip. Still, it has a left-of-center sort of charm to it. Rated R.
